Peter Johnstone Organ Quartet
£Free | 23 OCT
Hamishes Hoose, Paisley – 3pm
The Peter Johnstone Organ Quartet is without doubt one of the most exciting recent additions to the British jazz scene. With a strong emphasis on original composition and a uniquely flexible approach to playing, this classic line-up features the sounds of the classic 'Blue note' organ trios of the 60s but with original and contemporary sounds as well - in a swinging style, yet funky and full of passion on the ballads too.

The group features the talents of Peter Johnstone on organ (four times finalist of the Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year), Jonathan Chung on Tenor (The Jonathan Chung trio, the Corrie Dick sextet) John Lowrie on drums (Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra, The Paul Towndrow Quartet - "...an undoubtedly talented group". - The Herald ) and Davie Dunsmuir on guitar (The Alyn Cosker Trio, Seamus Blake, Wolfstone and Maggie Reilly).

One of the most promising young groups today, playing exciting, original music - the organ sound is back.

Do not miss - catch them if you can.

Poetry, song and story with a touch of the Gothic (almost Hallowe'en!). Graham Fulton, a founder member of Itinerant Poets, has published, performed and broadcast in the UK and the US. As a callow youth, Wullie Purcell used to sing folk songs. This will be his first attempt in public for about 200 years. Ian Hunter writes children's novels, short stories and poems and is the editor of the magazine "Unspoken Water". Betty McKellar has swiftly established a reputation as a poet in Scots. Her work explores colour, folklore and the landscape around Lochwinnoch.

If you wish to join in sign up with our compare, Tracy Patrick.

Special thanks to Michael Verino.
