Voices in Paisley 2010 Music Festival
Paisley Festival Company is very happy to welcome the Concord University choirs, currently on tour in Scotland (where they are performing in Paisley and Edinburgh) and Ireland.  Concord University, located in the town of Athens in the state of West Virginia, focuses on a range of liberal arts programmes and prides itself on providing a high quality educational experience for its three thousand students.  It has a lively Department of Music, with audition-based entry, directed towards preparing students for professional music careers.  The 21 singers, under the direction of Jushua Miller, and accompanied by Jesse Ratcliffe, form three choirs: the mixed-voice Concord Collegiate Singers, the all-treble Camerata Singers and the all-male ConChords.

Last year’s Festival included the first performance with us of Les Sirènes, an all-female group of RSAMD singers, directed by Andrew Nunn, when they supported the appearance of All Angels in Paisley Abbey.  We’re delighted they are able to return to Paisley, this time to share the platform with the Concord choirs.  Find out more about them at www.lessirenes.webeden.co.uk

The Concord choirs will provide a programme of highly varied traditional songs from African-American, Appalachian, Scottish and Irish origins, complemented by a contribution in similar vein from their flute quartet.  Les Sirènes will perform a wide-ranging compilation of songs, from classics to the shows, including Holst’s Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda, accompanied by Charlotte Sager on harp.

The last two items of the evening will be performed jointly by the two groups of students, in the spirit of transatlantic collegiality.
